The Virtue of Work (Islam 9 to 5) by Dr. Ramzi Mohammad & Dalia Mohammad, Esq.
As humans, we naturally work in order to provide sustenance for ourselves and our families. However, as Muslims, we need to transform our work into worship. By purifying our intentions and maintaining sincerity in our actions, we are able to commit anything we do for God’s sake. Our professions are no exception; we can use them to advance ourselves in this life and in the afterlife; and in essence; work our way to Jannah (paradise). The way to do this is to have sincere faith in God, place His pleasure foremost, exert your bets effort, strive for perfection in all your tasks, and follow the instructions in the Quran and Sunnah.
This book not only explains the Islamic concept of work, but its significance, value, virtues, rewards, benefits, duties, rules and requirements, supported by the Quran and Sunnah. It aims to motivate the reader to work at his or her job with a focused mission to please God and build society. God ensures that “Man can have nothing excerpt what he strives for”. Therefore, it is solely our responsibility to strive hard and sincerely work in order to benefit in this life and the next.
